A new home with old style

This residence for a writer and artist is tucked away in a small valley in rural western North Carolina. The home was designed to have a simple, timeless, vernacular exterior with a warm and rich interior. The downstairs has radiant floor heat in stained concrete to supplement a passive solar Design. Upstairs flooring is a mix of wood and brick tile. A small rooftop solar photovoltaic system provides most of the home’s power.

Extra attention was given to the kitchen, with custom cabinets and built-in shelving to display the clients’ antique dishware.
