Remote retreat for a small family

Nestled on the edge of an Appalachian meadow with visibility for 25 miles, this new construction was designed with the intention of being a ‘timeless cottage’ for a family of five. Surrounding the site are over 80 acres of protected lands set aside in a conservation easement procured by the Southern Environmental Law Center.

Solar electricity is produced from a nearby photovoltaic system and water is from an on-site well. Much of the home is heated passively with a backup radiant floor system. Details include exposed floor framing overhead and reclaimed floors, doors, & stair balustrade.
